Sparklers, Surrealism & Stunts

The month of July was yet another somewhat quiet month for the Heitzmanns as we prepared for a long visit from Bunny in August.  We laid pretty low, but still had a good time doing what we do best: being a family.

We spent American Independence Day at the Kangaroo Point cliffs for another lovely BBQ with our fellow expats.

Look at those cute shirts mom made! {and the cute kids too :)}

I can never resist taking a photo of the Brisbane skyline at this time of day;
 with the river and the clouds, it's just gorgeous.

Baseball {and Star Wars} buddies.

Our festive table.

Take a look at Ms. Overachiever!

Then out came the sparkler tradition.

trying to write 2011 - can you see it?

American ladies.

I took the kids over to the Mt. Cootha Botanic gardens for a picnic lunch and a walk around.  And, although it was a lovely day, we were devastated to find the construction of the new tunnel system to have encroached completely on the lagoon area there!  Boo Brisbane...I would have thought you had more foresight than to partially destroy one of your tourism highlights {and most beautiful greenspace!}

I think we've been around one too many tourists.

The Surrealism exhibit was on at the Gallery of Modern Art {GOMA} so a group of moms decided to take our kids down to see it over the June/July school holidays.

Caden learned to ride his bicycle on two wheels {which was long overdue!}. We live in such a hilly area that we just don't venture out on our bikes much at all; going downhill really scares the girls {hehe}.  It was  obviously something he was 100% ready for because as soon as those training wheels came loose, he was off!

Training wheels on.

But not for long...

See, here they are!

Ready, steady...

Go!

And he's off.

Very proud of his first two-wheel ride.

So of course he had to try it again.

Then Daddy took a turn.

But Caden was the real star of the day.  So proud of him!  Little stunt man.
